Defend Alaska Elections Announces New Mat-Su Co-Chairs

ANCHORAGE, September 14, 2020 — Today, Defend Alaska Elections -- Vote No on 2 announced the addition of Rep. Colleen Sullivan-Leonard of Wasilla and prominent Palmer businessman Joey Crum as campaign co-chairs. Rep. Sullivan-Leonard is a fourth-generation Alaskan with a public service record spanning 20 years, including six years on the Wasilla City Council. Joey Crum is the owner of Northern Industrial Training, a family-owned vocational school operating out of Palmer since its founding in 2003.

"When Alaskans vote, they expect a clear, transparent, and democratic process that ensures each citizen votes for one person, with one vote,” said Rep. Colleen Sullivan-Leonard. “Ranked choice voting takes away that democratic process and promotes a costly voting process where fourth place candidates become first based on a process of elimination. This type of voting disenfranchises voters that have relied on our trusted voting process for years. Ballot Measure 2 is not just un-American, it’s un-Alaskan.”

“Alaskans didn’t ask for Ballot Measure 2. It’s being forced on us by outside billionaires who want us to be their guinea pigs,” said prominent Valley businessman Joey Crum. “Ballot Measure 2 makes voting and elections more complicated. It will add confusion to a process that already works in Alaska and all 49 other states. Let’s not play around with one of our greatest gifts: the right to vote.”

Sullivan-Leonard and Crum join Mark Chryson of Wasilla in leading the Mat-Su efforts against Ballot Measure 2.
